Multi-System Relations

Working at Paramount I’ve been able to experience several different design systems even forming my own system. Below I’ll talk about the different systems that I worked with and how I contributed to them. I find this type of work really rewarding because you’re solving this puzzle that’s ever expanding and morphing. You have to take a lot of different views into account such as developers, designers, and of course your users.

Webplex Legacy Design System

When I first onboarded to the Network Streaming team, I was tasked with reviewing and creating my very first Event Config Theme. The process was laid out step-by-step where I would start with a brand guideline or styleguide. Using that I would make a color palette then I would input those colors matching them to CSS tokens within VS Code. Creating these themes can take some time as you have to go back and forth between code and then an html file within a browser to make sure the colors you slotted into the tokens make sense and are contrast compliant. At first it was mostly some trial and error to get the theme to look and feel the way I wanted. Once finished with the theme we’d share a link and a PDF to the brand team to get an official approval.

Using HTML and CSS I was able to take templates that were built prior to my employment. Stitching them together to create a test page where I could check each page without clicking multiple links to evaluate the color tokens across a brand theme. Saving time when building and checking contrast compliance.

Event Theming for Entertainment AVOD

Part of my role was taking on various events through out a year and theming their website or their voting site. These were created with templates that we would use a base for each new theme every year. I worked with BET, MTV, CMT, and Nickelodeon, preparing event themes for each of these brands. Below is a few examples of themes that I created, as well as the brand sites that I would Visual QA to make sure logo’s and colors were contrast compliant.
