Home The Final Frontier

When I first arrived on the scene at Paramount we had several branded apps with streaming. User’s could watch shows either on the web or via a CTV/Native app. Then Paramount+ started to grow by 2023 P+ was hitting growth in users and that’s when our business direction shifted. With that shift our directive was to take our branded sites and make them funnel to P+ to get users to the content faster. These pages would become what they are today. Marketing sites that intrigue users to find the content they want to watch via Paramount+.

Templated Discovery

The start of the project we divided up the websites into different pages that would need to complete the experience. We had a home, browse, TV Schedule, and About pages. As a team we split up these pages and each person was tasked with doing some discovery for that page. I was tasked with taking on Showtimes homepage. The goal was to take our component library and match their live bespoke website as best as we could. The fun part about this exercise was placing the puzzle pieces together. Taking our components and seeing what would fit where best. This project was a quick turnaround as the Showtime brand stakeholders wanted the new site up and running as fast as possible.

Home Spun Components

When I had some options ready I called in my team to give feedback and share their thoughts. This was a good start but one of the components that worked better would need to be adjusted to encompass larger screens with larger background images. This was a dev issue but also a design one. Our team liked our spotlight component with some adjustments. Working with Jason my VP of design he created some rough renditions of the spotlight card component. He asked me to go take what he had created and make a Paladin Component version. This would be a reusable component built with multi-branded theming capabilities.

The Stakes Are High

Once the layout was finalized with our design team, we had to get Stakeholder buy-in to make sure we were doing justice to the brand. They were thrilled with the mockups we created showing the whole site and the possibilities that Showtime could expect. Part of the project was to also come up with new ways that Showtime could surface content on Paramount+. I thought it’d be great to add a carousel at the end of the page that would send users straight to P+ to view other content. Thus creating our funnel from marketing site to Paramount+ Streaming Apps. The Stakeholders were impressed with the rapid execution of this project and were able to see tangible evidence of what the new marketing site would hold.
